Job Description
The HR Generalist is responsible for a variety of Human Resources activities. Activities include supporting HR Business Partners in the requirements of the business, supporting Staffing in scheduling and on-boarding employees, administering portions of the Labor Agreement with the IBEW, leading projects supporting the Company’s efforts to create and maintain an engaging work environment for employees. Implementation and interpretation of Human Resources programs in assigned function or organization, including problem resolution. Responsible for routine employee questions and concerns and projects that may involve other HR disciplines. Provide general advice and counsel to employees on HR-related issues and policies.
Essentail Duties and Responsibilities
Labor & Employee Relations (40% of time):
• Provide administrative support for labor contract administration. This includes BU job bidding, shift transfer requests, promotions, and disciplinary actions.
• Respond to routine HR policies and labor contract questions.
• Communicate employee concerns as appropriate to HR business partner.
• Identify and resolve routine employee concerns and complaints.
Staffing & Employment (25% of time):
• Support recruiting to include: working with hiring managers, scheduling interviews, and collecting feedback.
• Deliver portions of New Hire Orientation material and other training
• Create offer documents for internal transfers and promotions.
HR Projects (20% of time):
• Plans and executes Company events, such as the Holiday Party, Thanksgiving Luncheon, Team Building Events, Company BBQ, Celebrations and the Company Anniversary events.
• Coordinates logistics, to support and pre- and post-event requirements.
• Procures and coordinates vendor services if needed.
• Coordinates facility set-up, equipment and catering requirements
Administrative (15% of time):
• Responsible for providing unemployment details to the 3rd party vendor to ensure accurate and timely processing of unemployment claims.
• Responsible for ordering and distribution of Retirement gifts.
• Coordinate responses to subpoenas for employee data.
• Perform other duties and special projects as required.
Working Environment
Assignment Complexity – Problems and projects must be analyzed from multiple angles. Solutions must be creative and innovative within the realm of sound business judgment. Requires a comprehensive knowledge of applicable HR policies and procedures, and may also require a basic understanding of Company policies and Union labor agreement.
Accountability/Discretion – Most decisions made on basis of judgment of the incumbent, while major decisions are subject to management review. Improper or erroneous actions or advice could expose the corporation to legal action or result in increased operating costs, program/project delays, or unacceptable/negative working conditions for the workforce.
Working Relationships – Works with all levels of management and employees. Must interact with governmental agencies and outside vendors. Must maintain a high degree of confidence and trust by management and employees.
Supervision – No direct reports. No supervision required on administrative duties. Major decisions that may be precedent setting or affect HR and Company policies and procedures will require senior HR business partner and/or management review. HR Investigations and findings are also subject to review.
Conditions – Normal office conditions.
Experience/Proven Skills/Education
• 2-4 years of Generalist Human Resources experience with an emphasis on staffing and employee relations.
• Must be able to prioritize and multi-task effectively.
• General knowledge of MS Office applications including MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
• SAP knowledge a plus.
• Bachelor’s degree preferred.
• Major in Human Resources or Human Resources Professional certification desirable.
